Story Overview
Set in the picturesque seaside town of Portorosso, Luca 2 picks up a few years after the events of the first film. Luca, now a teenager, has fully embraced his dual life as both a sea monster and a human. He has been living in Genova, attending school, and pursuing his dream of learning about the world above the surface. However, when he receives a mysterious letter from Alberto, who is still living in Portorosso, Luca decides to return to his hometown for the summer. The letter hints at a strange phenomenon happening in the waters near Portorosso—a glowing underwater current that seems to be connected to their sea monster heritage.
Luca, Alberto, and Giulia reunite to investigate the mystery. Along the way, they meet a new character, Marina, a bold and curious sea monster who has been following the glowing current for months. Marina believes the current is tied to an ancient legend about “LUCA,” a mythical sea monster who was said to unite the underwater and human worlds. Together, the group embarks on an adventure that takes them deep into the ocean, where they uncover hidden underwater cities, ancient secrets, and a long-lost connection between humans and sea monsters.
As the glowing current begins to affect both the sea and the land, tensions rise between the humans of Portorosso and the sea monster community. Luca and his friends must find a way to bridge the gap between the two worlds before the current causes irreversible damage. Along the way, they learn about the importance of friendship, identity, and embracing differences.
